Design of the clothing

Design of the clothing

The clothing of the other moixigangues of the comarca of the Big Penedès present a big similarity to which thing provides us a common bottom from the qual goes  can elaborate a pattern for the wardrobe of the ballaires of the moixiganga vilanovina. The design and the pattern of the dress was commissioned to the vilanovina Susanna Santasusana but the preparation was encomanada to each dancer.

The wardrobe was subsidised by the Generality of Catalonia which accepted the demand that in Xavier Orriols did receiving to an order of 1991 of the Department of Traditional Culture. The subsidy of the moixiganga was approved the 14 of August of 1992 and the popular dance received 300.000 pesetas of the ancient to compensate all the expenses that the preparation of the wardrobe and the complements go ocasionar.

Hat

The hat of the moixiganga is of straw lined by a white cloth of viscous and scenery with cintetes green, brown and roses and flowers of cloth of indiana. The cloth of the flowers is the same with what were made the vests. The hat also brings a tape of wide silk that goes of right to left of the same and that avoids that it fall to land. Also I allow to hang it in moments in that the hat do nuisance. But really, as a ballaire of the moixiganga, have to say that this tape is not neither too practical. In the first place the tape does not avoid that the hat move  of the head during the step of coixinet, reason for which many dancers have opted to add a rubber that go through under the chin and avoid that the hat bounce and fall of the head. In the second place, many blow have complicated  the feet with the tape of silk in the moment to go up a canelobre or cross. Sometime we have posed us delete this tape but have decided to keep it since it is a characteristic piece of the dress of the dancers and even the logotype of the dance the door drawn.

The hats of the moixiganga would have to have the wing slightly fall but unfortunately is not like this. In the first place because many of them are very old and have the osier or the straw with that are done fraction. On the other hand there is other that simply have the wings bent upwards because of the sweat and the heat that especially to the exits of Greater Party have to bear. For these same reasons, the hats are not in its entirety white but that are used to to be marked so much for the sweat and of wax, etc… Since neither they can  wash.

At present we pose us the possibility to change the hats of straw for capells of cotton that can wash . The realisation of the change will depend of the spirits that the dancers show the next season.

The dancer that does the paper of Jesucrist does not bring capell but that in his place carries a white tape decorated with the same flowers of garnish the hats of the rest of the gang. This difference has the function to highlight the character above the other and also to remember us the crown of espines that placed him to Jesus and carried during the Passion, that is what the moixiganga represents.

White pieces: shirt and pants

Shirt and pantaló: so much the shirt how the pantaló are of white colour and only of cotton. Any of the two pieces has buttons since it has wanted  preserve the style of the period of the first moixiganga, so nowhere of buttons put  betas also of cotton that could tie . The trousers have a rubber to the top and are wide strength to facilitate the mobility. The shirts finished  with neck mao.

In the past the white pieces were simply the underwear that the men carried under the clothes. It was not the moixiganga the only dance in that his dancers brought the underwear as a official clothing, all those that know  as a White Dances carried.

Vest

The vest of the moixiganga presents a floral print in tones consonants with all the wardrobe. The cloth is a indiana white decorated with flowers in clear and pale colours: yellow, rose, green, blue… The cloth presents some tornassolats whitish shiny that can appreciate to contrallum. The vest neither brings buttons and in his place there are two betas more than cotton to lace it.

Belt

The faixa is of pink colour and done of wool, to the extremes brings a fringe of the same colour and material. The faixa is a necessary element for questions of health more than aesthetic, since it supposes a reinforcement of the lumbar zone. Mainly for the dansaires attendants to go up to weight his companions is necessary this faixa. Besides, at the time of going up and go down, also can represent a small help already who rise can lean the feet on any wrinkle of the faixa and help to the way typically castellera.

For another band the faixa is the piece than woman more heat since it goes enrotllada around the waist. Especially in the summer it does to sweat moltíssim this zone of the body of the dancers and with the sweat the shirt wets  and finishes dyed of the colour of the faixa. All and this inconvenient the faixa is one sins insubstituïble estèticament, traditionally and saludablement.

The skirt

The skirt and the camalls are of colour wine dyed artesanament reason for which sometimes are not equal between them. The skirt has buttons, neither zips, obviously, and brings a rubber to the waist. Besides, esta decorated with an edge of the same colour magenta to the inferior part.

The anklet

The anklet are of colour wine, also dyed artesanament and, how the skirts, no all purchase the same tone. The camalls have 16 cascavells each, but in fact do not accustom to have this numeral since very easy that the picarols descusin and fall.

The anklet lace with some cintetes of colour wine that tie giving the turn to the twins and doing a knot to the previous part remaining the knot and the tape inwardly the camall without that they see.

The espadrilles

The espadrilles have to be of white colour and with ropes. The material with that it was done the sole is indifferent, although depending of the floor where dance  is more convenient an only or another. Each dancer brings his own espadrilles. It is the only complement of the dress (apart from the socks) that does not facilitate the gang since for questions of hygiene is does very comprehensible.

The socks

Socks: all the dansaires have to carry white socks in order that they do not see  the nude feet and the white colour was continuous. Besides the sock does more comfortable the footwear since it avoids that the espart nail  to the plant of the foot and diminishes the sudoració.
